CONTINUING PROJECTS

THE CORAL REEF ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

Due to its proximity and its long shoreline (10 kms), Lion's beach was the foremost swimming destination of beach lovers in the city during the 60's & 70's to spend the family weekend picnics, early morning leisure and the annual celebration of St. John the Baptist feast day. Located within the city proper, Lion's beach lost its glorious splendor due to the lack of zoning regulations in preserving the place.

   Project Phase
s:
Launched under the administration of WB Federico Destajo last June 28, 2003 as part of the 25th Lodge Anniversary celebration, the first phase of the project have deployed 10 used culverts,(donated by some construction firms in the city) in strategic locations about 500 meters from the shoreline with Bro.Aim Agcaoili, then Junior Warden as the proponent of the project. On its second year, VW Romeo Bartolome initiated the "Shoreline Cleanliness Drive", enticing youths from different colleges and some NGO's.  The third year was as significant as the other only this time it got hold of the attention of the City Goverment and other agencies,in fact City Mayor Jun Acharon gave due recognition to this noble endeavor by awarding the Lodge a Citation. WM Modesto Sanchez Jr. was so gratified in meeting Mr. Chris  Herns, an Australian expat and a diving buddy of Bro. Agcaoili, donated 20 pcs. of "reef domes" to augment further its development. Tree Planting was also included in the third phase.
Now his term has come, WM Aim Agcaoili noted that the project has caught the awareness of the residents as early morning and weekend bathers are now part of its landscape,  but still, it has a long way to go!
